Giants Wide Receiver Plaxico Burress Expected to Turn Himself In After Accidental Shooting

NEW York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress, the hero of the team's Super Bowl win, is to be questioned by police after accidentally shooting himself.

His lawyer said today he will turn himself in "when required" in connection with the shooting.

Burress shot himself in the right thigh two days ago, the latest dramatic turn in a tumultuous season of fines and suspension for the star receiver.

Burress caught the go-ahead touchdown pass in the Giants' Super Bowl victory against the New England Patriots in February, following a regular season in which he scored a career-high 12 touchdowns.

He was rewarded with a $53 million, five-year contract only hours before the current season began.

But off the field, he was suspended for a game against Seattle in October and fined $178,600 for missing a team meeting and failing to notify the Giants of his absence. He said he had a family emergency.

Burress also was fined $68,400 by the NFL for his conduct during a game against San Francisco in which he abused an official and tossed a ball into the stands.

His lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, said today that he had spoken to Burress about the shooting.
"We will make arrangements for Mr Burress to be present (for questioning) when required," Brafman said.
"He's not running away from this. He intends to deal with this responsibly, and we hope it works out in the end.
I would ask that the public, the Giants, the media and everybody else withhold judgment.
He's presumed innocent, hasn't been convicted of anything, and we have a long road ahead of us."

New York police and NFL security are investigating what happened on Friday night.
Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce has already been interviewed by NFL security because he was present at the shooting.
Giants CEO John Mara would not say how incident might affacet Burress's status with the team.

"I want to wait until we find out all the facts and circumstances before we make any determination," he said.

He's supposed to be out with a hamstring injury so how is he partying it up at the club. As evident by The Giants big Win over TheRedskins, they really don't need Plax so it would behoove him to be on his best behavior!
