For the July issue of Italian Vogue, Mr. Meisel has photographed only black models. In a reverse of the general pattern of fashion magazines, all the faces are black, and all the feature topics are related to black women in the arts and entertainment. Mr. Meisel was given roughly 100 pages for his pictures. ( As you can See Ms. Tyra Banks made the issue) The issue hits European newsstands Thursday and U.S. newstands shortly after.
I suppose we should all be grateful that in 2008 Vogue has decided to dedicate one entire issue( out of many) to the black woman. It’s a very brave move on their part - MONUMENTAL!!!!! Let's not get overly excited, because come August, September, October, November, December and thereafter, it will be BUSINESS AS USUALE ( IE (nary a black face in sight!)
