TI The Movie Star? Will he Leave Hip Hop Behind?

T.I. is about to begin a year-long prison sentence next spring for weapons possession, but that hasn't stopped film studio Screen Gems from signing the rapper to a three-picture deal.

His first movie under the arrangement is the crime drama "Bone Deep," about a group of bank robbers dragged into one last job after pulling off a big heist. His co-stars are Matt Dillon and Idris Elba.

The second film will be "Boulevard," a drama in development in which T.I. will have the starring role. The third project has yet to be determined.

In the meantime, Tip is currently filming a six-episode MTV reality series that follows the 1,000 hours of community service he'll perform before serving his sentence.

His new album, "Paper Trail," is due Aug. 12.
